Phil Hornsby
General Secretary
Phil Hornsby is one of the six founder members of the PSU.
Phil has been involved with trade unions for over 30 years and has served as a full-time official with three separate unions - two of those unions within the Prison Service and the other within the NHS. In addition to this trade union experience, Phil is himself a former prison officer.
In 1995 Phil became a full-time official of the PSU. In 1999 he was appointed General Secretary of the Union.
Alec Leathwood
Deputy General Secretary
Alec Leathwood retired from HM Prison Service in 1997 having served as an officer for 31 years at Usk and Prescoed in South Wales.
For all of his adult life, Alec has been involved in trade unionism and politics. He is a former Mayor of Usk. A driving force behind the establishment of the PSU, Alec is one of its six founder members. He has served as PSU President on numerous occasions.
Steve Farrell
Joint Deputy General Secretary
Steve joined the full-time staff of the PSU in 2004 following his service at HMP Kilmarnock.
Steve lives in Scotland with his wife and two children. A former professional footballer, Steve still plays an attacking game for the PSU, apart from continuing his football as a semi-pro.
Angela May
Administrator
Angela May joined the PSU several years ago and has become a popular member of staff with other employees and members alike.
Sarah Day
Administrator
Sarah joined us in 2005 and has proven herself to be reliable, efficient and popular with members.
